Introduction
Thank you for considering the Job Readiness Program at Kitimat Valley Institute Corporation (KVIC).
The Job Readiness Program is designed to help you gain the qualifications necessary to be successful in your search for employment, as well as earn the skills needed to continue with higher learning.
Whether you have earned a grade 12 certificate but did not earn core courses being asked for in today's market, your credits require updating, or you simply need to complete courses for your Dogwood, KVIC's Job Readiness Program can help you realize those goals.
The Job Readiness Program is offered in a supportive, structured environment and is taught by certified teachers. The KVIC staff is available to help and assist you whenever possible to ensure your success in the program.

Classes occur in comfortable, well-equipped classrooms at KVIC. You will have access to a library, space for study and individual work as well as a computer lab.
A lunch room equipped with coffee machine, microwave and vending machines is available to you.
Course Outline
The Job Readiness Program at KVIC offers these courses to meet Ministry of Education requirements for students to earn their BC Dogwood Certificate.

The following courses are built into the program to offer skills that are desired by employers in today's job market. There is opportunity for you to pursue other skills or courses that you may require. KVIC provides support and guidance in helping you meet your specific learning needs.
- Occupational First Aid Level 1
- Transportation Endorsement
- H2S Alive
- WHMIS
In order to be accepted to this program of study, prospective students must complete all required admissions documents and meet with a KVIC staff member to determine placement

March 15 - 19, 2010 - Spring Break - No Classes
April 2, 2010 - Good Friday Holiday - No Classes
May 24, 2010 - Victoria Day Holiday - No Classes
June 26, 2010 - Last Day of Classes
The program runs for 10 months (September to June) Classes are in session 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 (Monday to Friday) Attendance each day is mandatory

- Learn to communicate through e-mail

- Learn specific programs such as Windows Operating systems, word processing programs such as MS Works, MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Publisher and Windows Explorer
- Learn and use a variety of job search skills such as electronic job search tools, newspapers and networking
- Write effective resumes and cover letters that best portray your abilities
- Become confident in interview situations
- Learn how to present yourself when meeting prospective employers including appropriate attire, spoken presentation and body language
